Het kinderboek ‘De Verloren Kleuren’ werd geschreven door de Palestijnse auteur Hani Albayari. Het vertelt een hoopgevend verhaal over een stad die al haar kleuren kwijtgeraakt was … en hoe ze die terugvond. Een universele positieve boodschap, zonder enige politieke inslag. Illustrator Lien De Cuyper zorgde voor leuke tekeningen.

Het boek werd eind 2023  gratis verspreid bij meer dan 2.100 kwetsbare gezinnen in Vlaanderen, dankzij een solidaire fondsenwerving.


Deze softcover versie van het boek is nu te koop aan 10 euro per stuk (+ eventuele verzendkost). Deze 10 euro gaat volledig naar het Palestijnse project dat hieronder voorgesteld wordt.

Het verhaal  achter het boek

Een dubbele solidariteitsactie


In 2023 ontmoetten Dirk en Chris van Uitgeverij Stokstaart in het vluchtelingencentrum van Berlaar Hani Albayari. Hij was met zijn gezin gevlucht uit Gaza. In Palestina was Hani auteur en redacteur van kinderboeken. En hij had nog een idee meegebracht: een kinderverhaal getiteld ‘De Verloren Kleuren’.

Stokstaart vond illustrator Lien De Cuyper en samen maakten ze een solidariteitsproject van het kinderboek.

Uitgever, auteur en illustrator werkten gratis en voor de druk werd een fondsenwerving opgezet. Meer dan 250 mensen maakten een bijdrage over (waarvoor hartelijk dank!) om de druk van het boek te betalen.

Meer dan 2.100 exemplaren van ‘De Verloren Kleuren’ werden in december 2023 verdeeld aan kwetsbare gezinnen in Vlaanderen, via sociale kruideniers en voedselverdeelpunten. Dit met dank aan Foodsavers Kempen en Foodsavers Mechelen voor de logistieke hulp.

Maar ondertussen was in de Gaza-strook de hel losgebarsten. Zo kwam het voorstel van Hani om het boek ook te koop aan te bieden, met een nieuw solidair doel. De opbrengst van het boek zal gestort worden aan het PCRF ‘Palestine Children’s Relief Fund’ (Fonds voor hulp aan Palestijnse kinderen) - meer bepaald aan het ‘Amputee Project’ dat zorgt voor behandeling en protheses voor kinderen uit Gaza die een amputatie ondergingen.

Het boek wordt verkocht via de vzw Auteursfonds Stokstaart, een vzw die het werk van auteurs van Uitgeverij Stokstaart promoot en ondersteunt. Deze vzw zorgt er - samen met Hani Albayari - voor dat de opbrengst van de verkoop doorgestort wordt aan het ‘Amputee Project’ van het PCRF.

The project 'The Lost Colours’


The children's book 'The Lost Colours' was written by Palestinian author Hani Albayari. It tells a hopeful story about a city that had lost all its colours ... and how it found them back. A universal positive message, without any political message. Illustrator Lien De Cuyper provided fun drawings.

The book was distributed for free as a softcover to more than 2,100 vulnerable families in Flanders in late 2023, thanks to a solidarity fundraiser.


And now it has been re-released. And proceeds from sales go to children in Gaza, who need prostheses after amputation.

The story behind the book - A double solidarity action


In 2023, Dirk and Chris of Stokstaart Editors met Hani Albayari at the refugee centre in Berlaar. He had fled Gaza with his family. In Palestine, Hani was an author and editor of children's books. And he had brought another idea with him: a children's story titled 'The Lost Colours'.

Stokstaart found illustrator Lien De Cuyper and together they turned the children's book into a solidarity project.

Publisher, author and illustrator worked for free and a fundraising campaign was set up for the printing. More than 250 people made a contribution (for which many thanks!) to pay for the printing of the book.

More than 2,100 copies of 'The Lost Colours' were distributed to vulnerable families in Flanders through social grocers and food distribution points in December 2023. This is courtesy of Foodsavers Kempen and Foodsavers Mechelen for logistical help.


But meanwhile, all hell had broken loose in the Gaza Strip. So came Hani's proposal to also offer the book for sale, with a new solidarity goal. Proceeds from the book will be donated to the PCRF 'Palestine Children's Relief Fund' - specifically to the 'Amputee Project' which provides treatment and prosthetics for Gaza children who underwent amputations.
